Little Mary Sunshine Theater Costume Rentals

This hugely successful Off Broadway show played for almost three years at New York?s Orpheum Theatre, winning an Obie award as the Best of the Season. Billed as ?a musical about an old operetta?-Little Mary Sunshine gently spoofs such old-time favorites like ?Rose Marie? and ?Naughty Marietta?-but has a personality all its own. The plot is a little bit of everything: Colorado Rangers led by stalwart Captain Jim; the lovely Mary Sunshine, her ?naughty? maid Nancy; a chorus of gigling schoolgirls and the ominous but benevolent Indian chief. Hearts are won and lost and won again, in this delightful, laugh-filled and charming show. ? wikipedia

Little Night Music Theater Costume Rentals

A Little Night Music is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler. Inspired by the Ingmar Bergman film Smiles of a Summer Night, it involves the romantic lives of several couples. Its title is a literal English translation of the German name for Mozart?s Serenade No. 13 for strings in G major, Eine kleine Nachtmusik. The musical includes the popular song ?Send in the Clowns?. Since its original 1973 Broadway production, the musical has enjoyed professional productions in the West End, by opera companies, in a 2009 Broadway revival, and elsewhere, and it is a popular choice for regional groups. It was adapted for film in 1977, with Harold Prince directing and Elizabeth Taylor, Len Cariou, Lesley-Anne Down and Diana Rigg starring. ? wikipedia

Little Women Theater Costume Rentals

Little Women is a musical with a book by Allan Knee, lyrics by Mindi Dickstein, and music by Jason Howland. Based on Louisa May Alcott?s classic 1869 semi-autobiographical novel, it focuses on the four March sisters ? brassy, tomboy-like, aspiring writer Jo, romantic Meg, pretentious Amy, and kind-hearted Beth ? and their beloved Marmee, at home in Concord, Massachusetts while the family patriarch is away serving as a Union Army chaplain during the Civil War. Intercut with the vignettes in which their lives unfold are several recreations of the melodramatic short stories Jo writes in her attic studio. ? wikipedia

Little?Mermaid?Theater Costume Rentals

The Little Mermaid is a stage musical orginally produced by Disney Theatrical, based on the animated 1989 Disney film of the same name and the classic story of The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen about a mermaid who dreams of the world above the sea and gives up her beautiful voice to find love. The musical?s book is by Doug Wright, music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman (written for the film), with additional lyrics by Glenn Slater. The musical?s underwater setting and story about aquatic characters requires true imagination by the costumer. After a pre-Broadway tryout in Denver, Colorado from July to September 2007, the musical began Broadway previews in November 2007 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, replacing Disney?s Beauty and the Beast. The production officially opened on January 10, 2008 and closed on August 30, 2009 after 685 performances and 50 previews. It introduced Broadway debuts by director Francesca Zambello and Sierra Boggess in the title role. ?Wikipedia

Prince Tamino has wandered too far from home, and becomes ensnared by the Queen of the Night who sends him on a journey to rescue her kidnapped daughter, Pamina.?Tamino is joined by Papageno, a funny birdcatcher who, like Tamino, longs for a love of his own.? With nothing but a magic flute to protect them, Papageno and Tamino step into the kingdom of Sarastro and discover that the reasons for Pamina?s capture are far more complicated than anyone could have imagined. Marriage of Figaro?Theater Costume Rentals

The Marriage of Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro) is set in Count Almaviva?s castle in Seville in the late 18th Century. It is based on Beaumarchais?s 1784 play La Folle Journ?e, ou Le Mariage de Figaro, a sequel to his earlier play, Le Barbier de S?ville (The Barber of Seville), familiar to opera audiences through Rossini?s great opera (Mozart?s opera premiered in 1786; Rossini?s premiered in 1816). In Le Barbier, Count Almaviva, with substantial help from Figaro, wooed and won the lovely Rosine away from her crusty old ward and would-be husband, Dr. Bartholo.

In The Marriage of Figaro, Beaumarchais continued their story. The Count has married Rosine but their marriage has gone sour because of his philandering. Figaro has quit barbering and is now the Count?s major-domo. He is engaged to Suzanne, who is Countess Rosine?s maid ? and the Count?s intended conquest. Old Bartholo is back to seek revenge on Figaro for taking Rosine away from him, with the help of the slimy music-master, Don Bazile. Adding to the fun are an amorous teenager, a scheming old maid, a drunken gardener, and a silly young girl. Much happens on a single ?folle journ?e? ? a crazy day.

Mozart?s librettist, Lorenzo da Ponte, took this popular play, removed ?political? content that would have offended the Viennese imperial censors (the French Revolution was only a few years away), and faithfully translated the rest into Italian ? the customary opera language of the day. With Mozart?s masterpiece of a score, the result was a witty yet profound tale of love, betrayal, and forgiveness.

Mary Poppins?Theater Costume Rentals

The first book introduces the Banks family from Number Seventeen Cherry Tree Lane, London, consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Banks; their children Jane and Michael; and baby twins John and Barbara. When the children?s nanny, Katie Nana, storms out in a huff, Mary Poppins arrives at their home, complete with her traveling carpetbag, blown in by a very strong wind. She accepts the job, and the children soon learn that their nanny, though she is stern, vain, and usually cross, has a magical touch that makes her wonderful. Among the things Jane and Michael experience are a tea party on a ceiling with Mr. Wigg, a trip around the world with a compass, the purchase of gingerbread stars from the extremely old Mrs. Corry, a meeting with the Bird Woman, a birthday party at the zoo among the animals, and a Christmas shopping trip with a star named Maia from the Pleiades cluster of the Taurus constellation. In the end, Mary Poppins is satisfied with the work she has done with the Banks family, and the West Wind carries her away..? Wikipedia

Much Ado About Nothing?Theater Costume Rentals

The Bard?s famous comedic romp known for the brilliant war of words between the feisty Beatrice and the staunch bachelor Benedick, Much Ado About Nothing plays out amidst the brittle high spirits of a post-war house party. When Don Pedro Prince of Aragon visits Leonato, Duke of Messina, love antics ensue. War hero Claudio falls in love with Leonato?s daughter, Hero and their marriage is agreed upon. While marriage preparations ensue, Don Pedro schemes up a plan to make old flames and longtime bantering partners Benedick and Beatrice fall in love. Despite Beatrice?s ire against Benedick and his claims to being a confirmed bachelor, when each overhears that the other is in love with him/her, he/she begins to wonder whether love between them is possible. Meanwhile Don John, the prince?s misanthropic bastard brother, contrives a more malicious plot to make Claudio believe his betrothed is unfaithful. The wedding day arrives, and Claudio denounces Hero at the altar. When Hero faints, the men abandon the wedding party, and she takes the advice of the Friar ? who is convinced of her innocence ? to pretend to be dead until the truth can be revealed. The foolish constable Dogberry and his watchmen overhear Borachio boasting of his exploit and the plot is exposed. Claudio promises to make amends to Leonato: he is required to marry a cousin of Hero?s in her place. When unmasked, she is revealed as Hero. Claudio and Hero plan to marry, and Benedick and Beatrice do the same. This charming exploration of love and marriage, friendship and honor, features some of Shakespeare?s wittiest and most poignant dialogue.

Oliver!?Theater Costume Rentals

Oliver! was the first musical adaptation of a famous Charles Dickens work to become a stage hit. (Besides the fame of Oliver Twist, another reason for the success of the musical was the revolving stage set, designed by Sean Kenny.) There had been two previous Dickens musicals in the 1950s, both of them television adaptations of A Christmas Carol.

The show launched the careers of several child actors, including Davy Jones, later of The Monkees; Phil Collins, later of Genesis; Alan Paul, later of The Manhattan Transfer; and Tony Robinson, who later played the role of Baldrick in the television series Blackadder. The singer Steve Marriott (Small Faces, Humble Pie) also featured in early line-ups, eventually graduating to the role of Artful Dodger in the West End production.

The plot of Dickens? original novel is considerably simplified for the purposes of the musical, with Fagin being represented more as a comic character than as a villain, and large portions of the latter part of the story being completely left out. (It may well be that Bart based his musical on David Lean?s film, rather than Dickens? book). Although Dickens? novel has been called antisemitic in its portrayal of the Jew Fagin as evil, the production by Bart (himself a Jew) was more sympathetic and featured many Jewish actors in leading roles: Ron Moody (Ronald Moodnik), Georgia Brown (Lilian Klot), and Martin Horsey.
